The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-4) lead the Ottawa Redblacks (2-1) 13-3 at the half in Friday night’s meeting at Princess Auto Stadium.
Bombers quarterback Chris Streveler completed seven of 12 passes for 70 yards. He’s also added nine carries for 55 yards and a rushing touchdown. Running back Brady Oliveira has contributed 75 rushing yards on 11 attempts.
Ottawa starting quarterback Dru Brown — a former Bomber — left the game in the second quarter after he was hit in the head by Redha Kramdi while sliding.

Newest MLA to be sworn in Monday

Manitoba’s newest MLA will be sworn in on Monday.
New Democrat Carla Compton, who won the June 18 Tuxedo byelection, will take the oath of office at the Manitoba Legislative Building.
Premier Wab Kinew will preside over the noon-hour ceremony. Compton will be sworn in by the clerk of the legislative assembly, Rick Yarish, with the NDP caucus, other MLAs and invited guests in attendance.
Tuxedo had been held by the Progressive Conservatives since it was formed in 1981, first by premier Gary Filmon and then by premier Heather Stefanson, who resigned the seat effective May 6.
Suspects sought in Portage stabbing

Police are searching for two suspects after a man was stabbed and robbed of his bicycle in Portage la Prairie early Wednesday.
RCMP were sent to the scene on 2nd Street Northeast at about 1:20 a.m. Officers gave the 37-year-old victim first aid until emergency crews arrived. He remained in hospital as of Friday afternoon.
Police were told two people approached the victim and stabbed him before stealing the mountain bike. The bike was found abandoned a short distance away.
The suspects are described as being in their late teens or early 20s and were wearing dark clothing.

St. Germain celebration set for Saturday

A celebration of life for Ray St. Germain, the late Manitoba music legend, is set for Saturday.
The ceremony will begin at Calvary Temple (440 Hargrave St.) at 1:30 p.m.
“Along with presentations and remembrances of Ray from friends and family, there will be musical performances paying tribute to his long musical career and honouring his legacy,” a news advisory from the Manitoba Métis Federation said.
The ceremony will be streamed online here.
St. Germain, a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, died June 25 at the age of 83.
Woman in critical condition after Lagimodiere Boulevard crash

A woman was transported to hospital in critical condition after a collision on Lagimodiere Boulevard on Friday morning.
The crash, involving multiple vehicles, happened at about 10:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service said.
A woman was transported to hospital in critical condition by a STARS air ambulance helicopter. A man was transported to hospital by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. A WPS spokesman did not know the man’s condition late Friday afternoon.
The WPS is asking anyone with information about the crash, or related video, to contact traffic division investigators at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
The northbound lanes of Lagimodiere between Abinojii Mikanah (formerly known as Bishop Grandin Boulevard) and Fermor Avenue remained closed as of 3:30 p.m. Police asked motorists to avoid the area.
WPS at the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Lagimodiere Blvd and E Mint Pl that occurred around 10:20 on Friday morning. A woman was sent to hospital and is now in critical condition police say.

Man charged in June slaying of woman

A man has been charged in connection with a woman’s slaying last month.
Kyle Byron Straight, 23, was arrested while walking on the 200 block of Salter Street on Wednesday and has been charged with manslaughter.
The Winnipeg Police Service said Friday that the suspect and victim did not know each other before becoming involved in a fight.
Norma Jean Sumner, 29, was transported to hospital in critical condition after she was found injured on the 500 block of Balmoral Street early on June 23. She was a Dauphin River First Nation member who had been living in Winnipeg.
The killing was Winnipeg’s 19th homicide of 2024, though police include the 2023 deaths of two infants in their internal 2024 homicide statistics.
