Jets fall 3-2 in overtime to Oilers

The Winnipeg Jets iced a young lineup and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Sunday.
Cam Dineen scored 77 seconds into three-on-three hockey to propel the Oilers to victory, while the Jets slipped to 0-1-1 in preseason action.
David Gustafsson and Dominic Toninato scored for the Jets, who got 23 saves from Eric Comrie.
Gustafsson scored on a redirection just 17 seconds into the contest, while Toninato evened the score just 10 seconds after the Oilers took the lead on a power-play marker from Raphael Lavoie.
The Jets hit the midway point of their six-game exhibition schedule on Wednesday when they face the Oilers in a rematch at Canada Life Centre.
Bomb unit deployed after suspicious item reported

The Winnipeg Police Service bomb unit was sent to the Centennial neighbourhood Saturday night after a suspicious item in a back lane was reported.
“The item was described as having a blinking red light, visible wires and smoke coming from it,” the WPS said in a news release Sunday.
Officers were sent to the 400 block of Elgin Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. and cleared the surrounding area. A bomb robot was deployed and “safely disengaged the device” at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the WPS said.
