Blue Bombers punch ticket to 111th Grey Cup

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are headed to their fifth straight Grey Cup after defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-22 in the CFL’s West Division Final at Princess Auto Stadium.

It was an offensive explosion from the Blue and Gold, which ran up and down the field for 485 yards of offence and five touchdowns.

Zach Collaros completed 19 of 26 passes for 301 yards and four touchdown passes, three of which were caught by Kenny Lawler. Nic Demski caught the other.

Brady Oliveria finished with 20 carries for 119 yards and a rushing major in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.

The Bombers will face the Toronto Argonauts in the 111th Grey Cup in Vancouver on Nov. 17. Winnipeg and Toronto played in the 2022 Grey Cup, won by Argos 24-23.

Blue Bombers carry two-score lead into fourth quarter of West Final

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lead the Saskatchewan Roughriders 31-16 with 15 minutes remaining in the CFL’s West Divison Final.

It continues to be the Zach Collaros and Kenny Lawler show at Princess Auto Stadium. After connecting for two touchdowns in the first half, Collaros found Lawler again, this time on a 57-yard bomb up the left sideline that restored a two-score lead for the hosts.

Collaros is up to 301 yards and four touchdown passes on the night while Lawler has shredded the Roughriders secondary for 177 yards on four receptions and three receiving touchdowns.

Riders’ running back AJ Ouellette leaped for a one-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter.

Winnipeg is seeking a berth to the Grey Cup for the fifth season in a row.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are one half away from a fifth straight Grey Cup appearance.

The Blue and Gold lead the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders 24-9 at halftime in the West Division Final at Princess Auto Stadium.

Quarterback Zach Collaros continued a sensational first half, finding Nic Demski for a 13-yard touchdown early in the quarter. Collaros is 16-for-19 for 228 yards and three touchdown passes at the break.

Kicker Sergio Castillo converted a 30-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

Roughriders kicker Brett Lauther has accounted for the team’s only points, connecting on field goals from 40, 33 and 44 yards.

Blue Bombers offence clicking in first quarter of West Final

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lead the Saskatchewan Roughriders 14-3 through one quarter of the CFL’s West Division Final.

Zach Collaros found Kenny Lawler for a 31-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring, then hit his star receiver again for a 24-yard major late in the frame.

Collaros is eight-for-nine for 156 yards. Lawler has three catches for 120 yards.

The Bombers have 186 yards of offence to the Riders’ 29.

The winner of the West Final will advance to the 111th Grey Cup in Vancouver on Nov. 17.

Hellebuyck stops 32 shots as Jets win 14th in 15 starts

Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars at Canada Life Centre Saturday afternoon.

The win, Winnipeg’s 14th in 15 games to start the season, established an NHL record.

Alex Iafallo, Vladislav Namestnikov, Nikolaj Ehlers and Rasmus Kupari scored goals for the hosts.

Roope Hintz of the Stars scored to make it 4-1 at 18:38 of the third period to snap Hellebuyck’s shutout streak at 191:47.

Crews respond to fire on Flora Avenue

9:26 AM

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to the 600 block of Flora Avenue Saturday morning for reports of a fire.

When crews arrived at the two-storey, multi-family residence around 6:41 a.m., they found smoke coming from the structure.

Firefighters assisted two people out of the residence, while the others safely self-evacuated. The fire was under control by 7:07 a.m.

The fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
