TORONTO – David Cochrane has been named the new host of CBC News Networks’ daily politics show, “Power & Politics.”

CBC says Cochrane, who has been appearing as a guest host this week, begins the post immediately.

The seasoned journalist has been among several anchors to sit in the chair after previous host Vassy Kapelos left CBC late last year to helm CTV News Channel’s flagship politics show, “Power Play.”

Cochrane joined CBC News’ parliamentary bureau in 2016 and has since reported from 11 countries across four continents.

Before his Ottawa stint, Cochrane spent nearly two decades covering politics in Newfoundland and Labrador, where he was born.

“Power & Politics” airs Monday to Friday at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT, 5:30 p.m. NT) on CBC News Network.

“I’ve watched and appeared on this show since its original incarnation as ‘Politics with Don Newman’ and all the incredible hosts since then,” Cochrane said Thursday in a release.

“It’s an absolute honour to be asked to take the host chair at this time and build on that legacy.”

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Feb. 16, 2023.
