Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha Jones is returning to the small screen during the Season 2 finale of “Sex and the City” revival “And Just Like That …” — but only for one scene.
Variety first reported Wednesday that Cattrall shot her dialogue in March in New York City, but added Cattrall didn’t speak with or see star Sarah Jessica Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King. The cameo won’t air until August, but the second season of “And Just Like That …” premieres June 22.
A spokesperson for Max (formerly HBO Max) confirmed to the Star that Cattrall will make an appearance this season but did not elaborate.
“In the scene, Samantha, who in the show has moved to London, will have a phone conversation with Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw,” Variety wrote. “In the first season of ‘And Just Like That,’ Carrie engaged with an estranged Samantha over text, and in the finale, the two made a plan to see each other in order to reconcile.”
Samantha fans shouldn’t be too hopeful she becomes a mainstay on the show: Cattrall’s cameo isn’t a signal she’s here to stay, at least for now.
Regardless of how short the cameo is, fans are thrilled, some taking to Twitter to say she’s always been the best part of the show and they’re happy to see her return, while others speculated if Cattrall not interacting with Parker onscreen is a result of their reported feud.
In 2016, Cattrall announced she was done playing Samantha when the script for the third film didn’t seem strong enough to her, leading to a public fallout with Parker.
“I would have preferred for all of us to have some kind of event to warrant a third film,” Cattrall told Variety in 2022. “That didn’t happen.”
Cattrall is also set to star in “About My Father” with Robert De Niro and plays a makeup mogul in “Glamorous” on Netflix, which premieres at the end of the month.
