MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rowdy Tellez, Brian Anderson and Garrett Mitchell hit consecutive home runs off Max Scherzer in the sixth inning, and Wade Miley earned his 100th career win as the Milwaukee Brewers routed the New York Mets 9-0 on Tuesday night.
Anderson and Mitchell also connected for back-to-back homers in the seventh off reliever Brooks Raley. The hot-hitting Anderson, who homered in Monday’s 10-0 victory over the Mets as well, had a two-run double in the first against Scherzer (1-1) and finished with six RBIs.
Miley, who started just eight games for the Chicago Cubs last season due to elbow and shoulder issues, made his season debut for the Brewers. He started 16 games for Milwaukee in 2018, compiling a 5-2 record. The 36-year-old lefty rejoined the Brewers in January when he signed a $4.5 million, one-year deal with a mutual option for 2024.
Miley (1-0) pitched six sharp innings, giving up five hits. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.
Three relievers completed an eight-hitter, handing the Mets consecutive shutouts for the first time since June 2021 against Atlanta.
The Brewers beat New York for the 17th time in the last 20 games at Milwaukee.
Milwaukee tagged Scherzer for eight hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings. The only other time the three-time Cy Young Award winner up three successive homers came in July 2017 with Washington at Arizona when David Peralta, AJ Pollock and Jake Lamb went deep in the first.
It was the first time Brewers batters launched three home runs in a row since Aug. 8, 2018, when Jesús Aguilar, Travis Shaw and Eric Thames pulled off the feat against the Padres.
