Canadian radio legend Tarzan Dan Freeman, host of Calgary rock station Q107, announced on Friday that it would be his last day on air, with the station saying it is going to change format in the new year.

“It’s never an easy pill to swallow,” Freeman said in a video tweeted out on Friday.

“I am here to let you know that today will be my last show at Q107 and then I’m unemployed, so if anybody’s got a job hey, give me a call,” Freeman said.

The DJ said he was going to devote his last show to playing fan requests and “take out Q107 the way it deserves to be taken out.”

The station said in a statement posted to Twitter on Friday that it’s turning a new page on Corus Classic Rock “Q107” CFGQ-FM Calgary.

“Thank you to all of our announcers for their time with Q, we wish them all the best. Big changes are coming in the new year, please stay tuned. Happy Holidays!”

The classic rock brand debuted on the station in 2004.

A number of long-time listeners reacted to the news on social media.

“Not only is @TarzanDan world famous & a phenomenal talent on-air, but he’s a genuinely good human being,” wrote former radio journalist Joe McFarland. “I have no doubt he’ll land on his feet somewhere.”

TV anchor Kevin Smith also paid tribute to Dan, saying he’s listened to him on the radio for decades.

“You can tell he loved and cared about the station and listeners,” wrote Airdrie-based influencer and Twitch streamer Rob Jamieson.
