Canadian cast announced for Tony-winning musical “SIX,” headed to Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre

The hit Broadway musical “SIX” is coming to Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre in September — with an all-new cast for the Canadian production playing Henry the VIII’s six wives, and the “Ladies In Waiting” band backing them up.

The show — which won 23 awards in the 2021/22 Broadway season, including at Tony for Best Original Score (Music and Lyrics) — was written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss when they were students for Cambridge University’s Musical Theatre Society. The play was performed by fellow students at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and quickly became a sensation.

The musical comedy is a modern retelling of the lives of England’s King Henry VIII’s wives, but it isn’t your typical history lesson. The women are all members of a girl band and are competing against each other to be the new leader. Through catchy pop songs to emotional ballads and synchronized dance, each woman recounts their own story about how they have suffered the at the hands of the king.

Starring as Henry VIII’s wives are: Jaz Robinson as Catherine of Aragon, Julia Pulo as Anne Boleyn, Maggie Lacasse as Jane Seymour, Krystal Hernández as Anna of Cleves, Elysia Cruz as Katherine Howard, and Lauren Mariasoosay as Catherine Parr. The cast also includes Hailey Lewis, Julia McLellan, Abigail Sparrow and Darcy Stewart as Standbys.

They are backed by a band called “Ladies in Waiting,” consisting of Liz Baird, who is also the music director, Allyson MacIvor, Kia Rose, Sarah Richardson and Aretha Tillotson.

“Casting for “SIX” was conducted across Canada and the United States,” said David Mirvish in a press release. “We are delighted by the cast of 10 multi-talented and dynamic actors and the powerful band. They represent an exciting new generation of theatre artists, and we are honoured to have them tell the empowering story of this celebrated and exciting new musical in Canada.”

“SIX” hits Canadian stages first at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre beginning Aug. 12 through September 10, 2023. It then travels to Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre where it plays from Sept. 23 to Dec. 17, 2023.

Tickets to SIX in Edmonton are already on sale through citadeltheatre.com. Tickets for the Toronto shows go on sale June 6 (the 6th day of the 6th month — get it?) at 10 a.m. through mirvish.com or by calling 1-800-461-3333.
