MANITOBA Hydro and the union that represents electrical workers reached a tentative collective agreement Wednesday, the power utility says.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2034 began launching job actions in late June and last week threatened walkouts if a deal wasn’t met by noon Thursday.

The union represents about 2,300 Hydro employees, including staff who repair transmission lines, restore power during outages and work at northern generating stations.

The union had taken various labour actions, including a complete withdrawal of standby services throughout the province and a restriction on overtime since June 28. The workers’ contract expired in February 2022.

Hydro would not reveal specific terms of the offer Wednesday, but said the union has indicated it is recommending its members accept the offer.

Further, the Crown corporation said, the union agreed to pause its job actions effective immediately. A ratification vote will be held next week.
