PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — John Volker had two first-quarter touchdown runs and Princeton posted a wire-to-wire 29-17 victory over Brown in Ivy League play on Friday night.
Volker scored on runs covering 66 and 7 yards and Princeton (2-3, 1-1) led 12-0 after the Tigers missed a point-after kick and a two-point try.
Blaine Hipa ran 13 yards for a score early in the second quarter and Sam Massick added a 28-yard field goal for a 22-7 lead at halftime. Solomon Miller’s 2-yard touchdown run got Brown (2-3, 1-1) on the scoreboard and preceded Massick’s field goal.
Qwentin Brown’s 1-yard plunge capped an 18-play, 75-yard drive to begin the second half and the Bears’ pulled within eight while taking 7:42 off the clock.
Isaiah Reed picked off Hipa in the end zone on second-and-goal at the 2-yard line and Brown turned it into a 33-yard field goal by Christopher Maron to get within 22-17 with 8:17 left to play.
Brown forced a three-and-out and the Bears drove to the Tigers’ 30-yard-line before Tahj Owens recovered a Matt Childs fumble. Princeton marched downfield and put the game away when Hipa connected with Luke Colella for a 12-yard touchdown with 1:53 remaining.
Hipa completed 15 of 26 passes for 206 yards with two interceptions for Princeton. Colella had six receptions for 96 yards. Volker totaled 79 yards on four carries.
Jake Willcox finished with 271 yards on 32-for-50 passing with three interceptions for Brown. He also carried 11 times for 55 yards.
