SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gabe Madsen scored 25 points, making 6 of 9 3-pointers, and Utah cruised past Cal State Bakersfield 72-44 on Friday night.
Utah’s 16-2 run to open the second half turned a 13-point halftime lead into a 52-25 blowout with 13:42 remaining. Madsen, who scored 14 points in the first half, added seven points in that run.
Branden Carlson, who had 21 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in Utah’s season-opening win over Long Island, added 12 points, six rebounds, two blocks and three assists in this one. Ben Carlson had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Wilguens Exacte scored 10 points off the bench.
The Utes (2-0) shot 48% from the field, with 9 of 20 3-pointers, and were 13 of 20 from the free-throw line.
Antavion Collum scored 14 points and Kaleb Higgins had 13 for the Roadrunners (1-1). No other player scored more than six points.
Cal State Bakersfield shot 29.8% from the field and made only 6 of 11 from the free-throw line.
