The National Ballet of Canada is taking its show on the road to New York later this month.

The company will perform a mixed bill at New York City Center March 30 to April 1, led by Crystal Pite’s “Angels’ Atlas,” having its American premiere.

Also on the bill are David Dawson’s “Anima Animus,” with its New York premiere, and Kenneth MacMillan’s “Concerto.”

Artistic director Hope Muir noted in a news release that this is the National Ballet’s first international tour in more than three years and its first time at New York City Center in 15 years. The beautiful Moorish Revival theatre is a two-minute walk from Carnegie Hall.

The company last performed there in 2008 during New York’s Fall for Dance festival and, before that, it presented a bill of works by Canadian choreographers in 1998.

Of this latest visit, Muir said, “I am thrilled to present a program that brilliantly showcases the versatility and talent of our artists, and introduces New York audiences to two breathtaking new works … on a program with one of ballet’s great legacy works.”

The National Ballet was back in New York in 2014, performing Christopher Wheeldon’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” at New York’s Lincoln Center, marking its first time at that venue in 35 years.

Pite’s “Angels’ Atlas” was commissioned for the company and made its Toronto debut in March 2020 just before the first pandemic lockdown. It also welcomed audiences back to the Four Seasons Centre in November 2021.
