Bombers grow lead into halftime against Tiger-Cats

9:14 PM

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers hold a 16-3 halftime lead over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Princess Auto Stadium.

The hosts have outplayed the Tabbies in every facet but only had a three-point lead to show for it with three minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Then the Bombers got a game-changing spark through special teams, as linebacker Tony Jones laid a big hit on returner Tim White, dislodging the ball for Michael Ayers to scoop up and return it 27 yards for a touchdown.

Sergio Castillo is a perfect three-for-three on field goals, converting from 43, 18 and 41 yards.

Left tackle Stanley Bryant (first quarter) and guard Gabe Wallace (second quarter) exited the game, leaving Winnipeg to an ironman on the offensive line.

Bombers’ Stanley Bryant stretchered off field in first quarter

8:12 PM

Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ veteran right tackle Stanley Bryant was stretchered off the field during the Bombers’ opening drive against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

After taking a knee while trainers attended to him, Bryant attempted to walk off the field with the support of staff but only made it a few steps before going back down to a knee.

Following a 10-minute stoppage, Bryant exited with a wrap on his left leg. A sign of optimism, he quickly waved to the crowd as he left the field.

A four-time recipient of the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman award, Bryant has appeared in every contest since 2022 for the Bombers.

Man arrested for child sex abuse images, prepubescent sex doll

2:17 PM

A Winnipeg man is facing numerous child-pornography charges after border agents intercepted a sex doll designed to look like a child.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s internet child exploitation (ICE) unit  was notified by the Canada Border Services Agency earlier this month that a package destined for Winnipeg contained a sex doll “anatomically designed to appear to look like a prepubescent child.”

A search warrant was executed at a Silver Heights-area home, and a man was arrested Wednesday after an investigation. Numerous items — including various electronic devices — were seized, a Friday news release stated. A forensic analysis of the devices is pending.

“Information provided to investigators indicated that the male had imported similar items and children’s clothing between December 2022 and August 2024,” the release stated.

The 41-year-old man faces numerous charges, including possession of child pornography;  importing, distributing, selling or possessing child pornography for the purpose of distribution; and making, printing, publishing or possessing child pornography for the purpose of publication. He remains in custody.

The ICE unit continues to investigate. Anyone with information or wishing to speak to investigators can call 204-986-6172.
