Bombers still trail Argos after third quarter
9:37 PM
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continue to trail the Toronto Argonauts 13-4 through three quarters at Princess Auto Stadium.
Both teams led promising offensive drives that were stymied of any points.
Zach Collaros coughed up a fumble to halt Winnipeg’s opening series. The Argos drove to the Bombers’ one-yard line on the ensuing drive before turning the ball over on downs.
Winnipeg can clinch a bye to the West Division Final for a fourth consecutive season with a win.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are headed to the locker room, trailing the Toronto Argonauts 13-4 and searching for answers on offence.
The Bombers have run just 25 offensive plays and have accrued four first downs and 98 yards.
Zach Collaros was sacked five times in the first half and is 6-for-9 with 82 passing yards.

The Argos scored on their first drive, as quarterback Chad Kelly found receiver Dave Ungerer for a 13-yard touchdown.
Meanwhile, the Bombers have been weighed down by a series of missed opportunities.
Special teams stud Brian Cole forced a fumble on a punt return and recovered the ball to set the Bombers up inside the Argos’ 10-yard line, but the offence could not cash in.
Later, Sergio Castillo missed a 42-yard field goal attempt wide left.

The body was found north of Winnipeg, near the 3900 block of Henderson Highway in the Rural Municipality of East St. Paul, on the afternoon of Sept. 21.

Portage and Main delays could start Tuesday
1:36 PM
The City of Winnipeg says people should expect delays at Portage and Main as pre-construction begins at the iconic intersection as early as Tuesday.
Various sections of the curb and median lanes on Portage Avenue and Main Street will be closed intermittently over the next four weeks as traffic signals crews work at the intersection.
The preparations will allow a contractor to begin demolition of the concrete barricades that prevent pedestrians from crossing, along with other major construction work, in mid-November.
The city said in a news release Friday that more details, including related traffic impacts, will be released before construction starts Nov. 15.
The city is seeking to reopen the intersection to foot traffic by July 1 — 45 years after it was closed to pedestrians. City council voted to reopen Portage and Main to above-ground foot traffic in March after Mayor Scott Gillingham said it would cost $73 million to repair a leaking membrane in the underground concourse.

Officers spotted the F150 at a gas station, but the driver sped off.
The vehicle later went into a ditch in Grandview, and officers arrested three suspects after a short foot chase.
A 20-year-old woman and two boys, ages, 17 and 15, all from Roblin, have either been charged or are facing charges. The woman is also charged with resisting arrest and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
Jets lose Kahkonen on waivers
1:15 PM
The Winnipeg Jets goaltending depth took a hit on Friday as Kaapo Kahkonen was claimed off waivers by the Colorado Avalanche.
After Eric Comrie won the backup job, the Jets were hoping Kahkonen would clear, so he could be sent down to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League to serve as a mentor for Thomas Milic, who will now share the crease with Dom DiVincentiis.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel was asked about the decision to keep Comrie over Kahkonen on Friday after the morning skate.
“I know he’s (Comrie) been here a couple of times, but his compete (level) and just how he works in practice, how he works in games (gave him the edge). Just right now, that’s how we’re starting, how we’re working right now. He earned the opportunity, just like everyone else,” said Arniel.
The Jets face the Chicago Blackhawks in their home opener on Friday night.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s guns and gangs unit stopped the vehicle in the 700 block of Dufferin at about 10:30 p.m. Officers found the driver did not have a valid driver’s licence and had an “an edged weapon” on him.
Police said officers searched the vehicle and found a rifle with a loaded magazine, about $800 worth of fentanyl and smaller amounts of methamphetamine and crack cocaine.
A 23-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges, while his three adult passengers were released.

Police raid Flora Avenue house

Winnipeg police say major crimes investigators are executing a search warrant at a house on Flora Avenue east of Arlington Street.
The operation includes at least a dozen police vehicles, tactical officers armed with long rifles and a drone operator.
Officers flew the drone into the house through a broken window, a Free Press photographer said, while the police service’s armoured truck sat on the boulevard.
Police announced the operation in a social media post just before 8 a.m. Friday.
Police spokesman Const. Steven Spencer, who said he could not immediately provide further details of the operation, said area residents are not at risk.
