Two people found dead in North Point Douglas encampment

Two people were found dead in an Euclid Avenue encampment Monday afternoon.

Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service officers received reports of two people in cardiac arrest at around 1:14 p.m. When crews arrived, both people were pronounced dead.

A medical examiner was on scene Monday afternoon at the encampment, which sits in the North Point Douglas area in Joe Zuken Heritage Park.

No cause of death has been declared and the WFPS provided no further details on the two people who died.

Deadly rollover on icy Highway near Falcon Lake Sunday

A Surrey man is dead after a single vehicle rollover on Highway 1 east of Falcon Lake Sunday morning.

A semi-trailer headed east with two passengers at around 6 a.m. lost control on the highway and slid into the ditch where it rolled.

Road conditions were reported to be icy at the time.

The driver, a 54-year-old man, was not wearing his seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old passenger, also from Surrey, B.C., had minor injuries.

Falcon Beach RCMP are investigating.

Semi-truck driver killed in rollover, second man injured

One man is dead and another injured after a semi-truck driver lost control of his vehicle early Sunday morning and rolled into a ditch.

The single-vehicle collision occurred around 6 a.m. on Highway 1, approximately eight kilometres east of Falcon Lake, the Manitoba RCMP said in a release Monday.

Investigators learned the driver, 54, was driving eastbound with a 22-year-old passenger when he lost control on the icy highway, slid into the ditch and the semi-trailer rolled.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead on scene. The passenger suffered minor injuries. Both men are from Surrey, B.C., police said.

The RCMP continues to investigate, it said.

RCMP investigating after woman dies in Souris apartment fire

RCMP are investigating after a woman died in an apartment fire in Souris last week.

Mounties were called to an apartment block in the small community southwest of Brandon at about 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 6, RCMP said on Monday.

The local fire department and paramedics were already on scene. Firefighters contained the blaze to one unit, but the 70-year-old woman who lived there was pronounced dead at the scene.

Souris RCMP officers are investigating the fire in tandem with the provincial Office of the Fire Commissioner.
