Jets downed 4-1 by Predators

NASHVILLE — The Winnipeg Jets ran out of gas Saturday night in Nashville, falling 4-1 to the Predators.

It was the second game in as many days for Winnipeg, which beat Pittsburgh 4-1 on Friday to open a season-long six-game NHL road trip.

Adam Lowry had the lone goal for the Jets, while backup goaltender Mike Comrie stopped 32 of 35 shots in a losing effort.

Winnipeg also lost defenceman Dylan Samberg to a lower-body injury early in the game after he blocked a Steven Stamkos slapshot.

The Jets fell to 17-4-0 and now head to Minnesota to face the Wild on Monday evening.

Man dead in Cross Lake collision

A 38-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle operated by an impaired driver on a northern Manitoba First Nation, Mounties say.

In a news release Saturday, RCMP said the victim was walking on a road in Cross Lake Cree Nation Thursday around 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. He was taken to the community’s nursing station, where he was pronounced dead.

While officers were processing the scene, the suspect returned in his vehicle and tried to remove debris from the collision site, Mounties said.

A 53-year-old Cross Lake man was arrested for impaired driving.

Cross Lake is about 750 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

Missing senior found dead: Spruce Plains RCMP

A missing 81-yer-old man has been found dead, Spruce Plains RCMP said in a news release Saturday.

George Haslen was last seen around 3 p.m. Friday when he left his home in his truck and did not return.

The senior was located around noon in his vehicle on a rural road northwest of Rapid City. First responders provided medical attention to Haslen, but he was declared dead on scene.

Man, 18, charged in fast food restaurant robbery

Employees at a Main Street McDonald’s were forced to hide in an office after they were threatened by a knife-wielding man early Saturday.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the restaurant on the corner of Main and Mountain Avenue at 1186 Main Street, Winnipeg police said in a news release Saturday morning.

Police said a suspect armed with a knife entered the business’s kitchen and threatened to kill employees. He also demanded food.

Employees locked themselves in an office space and called 911. The suspect then sprayed the restaurant with a fire extinguisher, police said.

Police arrested the suspect leaving the business.

An 18-year-old Winnipeg man is facing an array of charges including robbery and uttering threats. He remains in custody.

No injuries were reported. The restaurant was open as of Saturday morning.

Man facing charges after transit supervisor assaulted

A 23-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after allegedly aiming an improvised torch at a transit supervisor Friday morning.

Winnipeg police responded to the assault at Fort Street and Graham Avenue around 8 a.m.

The transit supervisor boarded the bus to wake-up a passenger who had been asleep for several hours, police say. The passenger exited the bus and then allegedly created a torch using a can of hairspray and a lighter.

Police say the passenger aimed the torch at the supervisor, who then pushed him to the ground and disarmed him.

The passenger was charged with assault with a weapon and detained in custody.
