Three facing charges after $70K worth of cocaine seized

Three men are facing drug-trafficking charges after a traffic stop at St. Mary’s Road and Hull Avenue on Thursday.

The stop was part of an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s guns and gangs unit that started in August.

Police seized about 834 individually wrapped grams of cocaine, 66 grams of packaged cocaine, drug packaging and trafficking materials, luggage, airline tickets and a stolen identification document. Nearly $2,000 in Canadian currency and two vehicles were also seized.

Police said the cocaine is linked to a trafficking network that operates interprovincially. The drugs, which police said had an estimated street value of $70,000, were destined for northern First Nations communities.

A 26-year-old from Winnipeg, a 24-year-old from Vita, and a 27-year-old from Penticton, B.C., were arrested.

Police are still investigating and ask anyone with more information about the network to contact the unit at 204-986-8430, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
