Hathway Road house fire under investigation

12:25 PM

The cause of a house fire in River East is under investigation.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which happened on the first 100 block of Hathway Road at about 7:46 p.m. Saturday.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews declared the fire under control at about 8:19 p.m. Everyone in the house got out safely before firefighters arrived.

Hit-and-run victim hospitalized

A 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being the victim of a hit and run overnight Saturday.

It happened at about 12:30 a.m. March 15 in the 400 block of Mulvey Ave. East. Winnipeg Police Service officers were called to the scene for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

“Information provided at the time stated that a white van had struck a pedestrian and left the scene prior to police arrival,” Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Claude Chancy stated. 

Police are still investigating.

Woman arrested after police spot stolen vehicle

A 31-year-old woman was arrested after police spotted a stolen vehicle early Sunday.

Officers on patrol saw a 2007 Ford 150 in the area of Sargent Avenue and McGee Street at about 12:20 a.m. The vehicle had been reported stolen from the 100 block of Perth Avenue on Friday. With help from the police helicopter, officers followed the stolen vehicle and arrested its lone occupant shortly after she got out and fled on foot.

The woman arrested faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failure to comply with conditions of an undertaking. She was released on an undertaking.
