Jets down Lightning 7-4, improve to 11-1-0

The Winnipeg Jets rallied for an early 2-0 deficit to down the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Canada Life Centre.

Seven different players found the back of the net, including Nikolaj Ehlers, Vlad Namestnikov, Logan Stanley, Dylan Samberg, Mark Scheifele, Alex Iafallo and Cole Perfetti.

Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves in the victory.

The Jets improve to an NHL-best 11-1-0 this year, while the Lightning fall to 7-5-0.

Winnipeg returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Utah.

Two arrested in Corydon shooting

Two young men have been charged in an Oct. 5 shooting in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue. The 44-year-old male victim, who survived, had intervened in a physical altercation between the two suspects and a third man at about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 5.

Both suspects fired handguns at the victim, who was shot in the upper-body and was treated in hospital, police stated in a news release Sunday as they announced the arrest of the two suspects.

Eldon Siddall, 18, is charged with aggravated assault, firearms offences and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. Diondre Nicholson, 19, is charged with aggravated assault, firearms offences, driving while disqualified, forgery and possession of counterfeit money. They were arrested after police executed search warrants Nov. 1.

Police also linked one of the suspects to a separate shooting that happened in the 100 block of Smith Street in the early morning hours of March 17, 2024. Both were detained in custody.

Makeshift gun seized from cyclist

A man with a makeshift gun was arrested in the North End on Saturday after police stopped him for riding an electric bicycle on the sidewalk.

Winnipeg Police Service officers with the gangs and guns unit were patrolling near Salter Street at Selkirk Avenue at about 7:55 p.m. Nov. 2 when they stopped the cyclist for what appeared to be a traffic ticket infraction, officers noticed the man had on him a partially concealed firearm. Police arrested him and seized an improvised firearm loaded with a 12-gauge round of ammunition.

Edwin Wilfred Ducharme, 40, is charged with carrying a concealed or prohibition weapon and ammunition, as well as three counts of possessing a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.

Homicide suspect arrested

Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a man in the slaying of a woman who was found unresponsive behind Portage Place mall on Halloween.

Ryan John Kennedy, 32, has been charged with second-degree murder and is in custody, the police service announced in a news release Sunday morning.

Kennedy is accused of killing Briannah Clowes, 28. The victim and the accused knew each other, police stated. Clowes died after being rushed to hospital in critical condition on Oct. 31 at about 3:10 p.m. She was found unresponsive on The Promenade behind the downtown mall.
