Mounties urge Good Samaritans to be cautious

12:43 PM

RCMP are warning drivers to be careful when pulling over to potentially help other motorists.

Pembina Valley RCMP were called about two males in a vehicle stopped along Highway 3, between Thornhill and Darlingford, at about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Mounties were told two males in a light blue BMW SUV with an Ontario licence plate were stopped along the highway, flashing their vehicle’s lights and waving their arms to try to get other motorists to stop.

“Once stopped, the males approached the motorists and offered to sell them jewelry, such as watches and rings, or asked for money for gas, stating they are not from the area,” RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

“No threats were made, and nobody was injured, but many of the motorists felt intimidated.”

Police have received several similar reports from the area and elsewhere in southern Manitoba over the past week and are warning motorists to be “safe and aware” if pulling over to assist someone.

Pembina Valley RCMP are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call them at 204-745-6760 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
