Jets trail Golden Knights 1-0 after first period

LAS VEGAS – The Winnipeg Jets are down 1-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights after one period of play.
William Karlsson scored for the home team, who are off to a sizzling 9-0-1 start this season.
Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play.
Shots are 10-5 for the Golden Knights through 20 minutes.
This is the start of a three-game road trip for the 4-3-2 Jets, who will play Saturday in Arizona and Tuesday in St. Louis.
Throne speech set for Nov. 21

The newly elected NDP provincial government is set to deliver its throne speech Nov. 21.
The speech from the throne will state the government’s priorities for the year ahead and will focus on fixing health care and chronic homelessness, premier Wab Kinew stated.
“Convenient access to high-quality health care, lowering costs for your family and a balanced budget, and new actions to address homelessness – these are the foundations of a safe, prosperous Manitoba,” said Kinew.
“There is much for us to accomplish and I look forward to sharing our plans that will get real results for Manitobans on the issues that matter most. Together, there is no challenge that we cannot meet in this province.”
11 Bombers named West Division all-stars

A total of 11 members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were named West Division all-stars, the CFL announced Thursday afternoon.
Seven players on offence got the nod, including quarterback Zach Collaros, running back Brady Oliveira, receivers Dalton Schoen and Nic Demski, and offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld, Stanley Bryant and Jermarcus Hardrick.
On defence, defensive end Willie Jefferson, cornerback Demerio Houston, halfback Evan Holm and safety Brandon Alexander received the honour.
Divisional all-stars were voted on by members of the Football Reporters of Canada and all nine head coaches, and with some input from fan voting.
Petit Socco wins national restaurant award

Winnipeg’s Petit Socco has been named one of the country’s best new restaurants by Air Canada’s enRoute magazine.
Chef Adam Donnelly, formerly of Segovia, and partner Courtney Molaro opened the minuscule 10-seat eatery on Stafford Street last August.
At a gala event in Toronto on Wednesday night, it was revealed Petit Socco had clinched the fifth spot on the Top 10 list of Canada’s Best New Restaurants 2023. Donnelly’s pork belly and nectarine panzanella was also named Dish of the Year by enRoute, which has been doling out the national restaurant awards for more than two decades.
The Top 10 restaurants were selected from a longlist of 100, which also included Winnipeg’s Bar Accanto, a small wine and tapas lounge connected to St. Boniface fine dining spot Nola.
Man charged in attempted bank robbery

A man is facing a robbery charge after he allegedly gave a bank employee a note demanding money.
The incident happened in the 200 block of Portage Avenue at about 4:10 p.m. Monday.
The employee activated an alarm, and a suspect was still in the bank when police arrived. Police arrested the man.
No weapon was used in the incident, and no funds were obtained, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday.
A 37-year-old Winnipeg man “was released on an undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code,” the WPS said.
