Low water levels at Lockport dam
10:48 AM
The federal government is warning boaters who plan to use the St. Andrews Lock and Dam to be careful because of low water levels.
Public Services and Procurement Canada said in a news release Tuesday that it has partially removed the dam, which is located on the Red River in Lockport, because of significant rainfall the past two weeks. The removal has lowered the water level below the usual level.
“We will put the dam back in once conditions permit,” a news release said. “Until then, the water level may not be sufficient for boaters travelling through the lock.”
Boaters are advised to call the lock station at 204-757-3041 to confirm conditions.
The government also said boaters should be careful upstream in the area of Lister Rapids because of fluctuating water levels and debris.
