Kupari, 23, has played in all 15 games for Winnipeg this year and has recorded one assist.

Emergency-alert test scheduled Wednesday

1:46 PM

The province is giving Manitobans plenty of warning before a Wednesday-afternoon test of the National Public Alerting System.

The Alert Ready test at 1:55 p.m. will occur on TV, radio and on compatible wireless devices. Some Manitobans, because of device software, settings, network connections or cell-tower coverage, won’t receive the alert, the province’s Emergency Management Organization said in a news release Tuesday.

The tests are necessary to validate the reliability of the system and educate the public on what emergency alerts look and sound like in the event of a life-threatening situation, the province said.

Three hurt in morning fires

12:46 PM

A person was taken to hospital in unstable condition after a fire in an assisted-living centre on Tuesday.

Crews were sent to the KeKiNan Centre at 102 Robinson St. at 7:18 a.m. and declared the fire under control at 7:47 a.m.

“The preliminary investigation suggests the fire was accidental, caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials,” the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said.

A second person was assessed by paramedics.

Earlier, crews extinguished separate fires in multi-family residences.

Crews were sent to the 100 block of Maryland Street at 11:10 a.m. and declared the fire under control 30 minutes later. A firefighter suffered injuries at the scene and was assessed by paramedics. It appears the fire was caused by a space heater, the WFPS said.

Firefighters were sent to the 400 block of Redwood Avenue at 4:34 a.m. They fought the fire from inside, declaring it under control at 4:59 a.m.

Damage was contained to one suite in all three of the fires.

Witnesses sought in road rage attack

12:26 PM

Police are looking for witnesses after a 72-year-old man was assaulted and seriously injured in a road rage incident in the Osborne Village area last month.

He was driving black 2014 Dodge Caravan westbound in the 200 block of River Avenue at about 1:20 p.m. on Oct. 12 when he stopped suddenly to avoid collision with a cyclist.

The driver rolled his window down to speak with the enraged cyclist.

A third male, who police believe was with the cyclist, approached the driver’s side window and struck the victim in a sudden attack that might have involved a weapon.

The WPS is asking witnesses to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
