Michael Franti concert cancelled

Michael Franti & Spearhead will no longer be performing in Winnipeg on Sept. 4. A statement on the Ticketmaster website says the cancellation is due to “unforeseen circumstances”; very few tickets had been sold to the Burton Cummings Theatre show as of today.
The Saskatoon show from the California singer-songwriter and founding member of the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, currently on his Togetherness Tour, has also been cancelled.
All ticket holders and VIP Experiences will be refunded via the point of purchase. Refunds will be made to the original method of payment used at time of purchase, as soon as funds are received from the event organizer. It should appear on the account within 14-21 days.
Settee re-elected as MKO grand chief

Garrison Settee has been elected to a third consecutive term as grand chief of the northern First Nations advocacy group Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak.
Settee, of Pimicikamak Cree Nation, was re-elected at MKO’s 43rd annual general assembly Wednesday.
He received 82 votes, while Chris G. Baker of O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation received 25. There were no other candidates.
All MKO member First Nations chiefs and councillors were eligible to vote.
Settee was previously elected to serve three-year terms in August 2018 and August 2021.
Most Winnipeg spray pads to stay open until Sept. 8

Winnipeg’s spray pad season is being extended by another five days, with most facilities scheduled to remain open until Sept. 8.
Spray pad hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
All spray pads were originally scheduled to close Sept. 3. The facilities at Boyd Park and Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre will still close that day.
Outdoor pools and wading pools are still scheduled to close by Sept. 3.
RCMP arrest remote camp slaying suspect

RCMP have located and arrested a 38-year-old man who is charged with second-degree murder in a fatal shooting at an isolated camp in northern Manitoba.
A warrant was issued for Jamie Flett, who police believed was in the Split Lake or Gillam areas.
RCMP said officers were sent to the camp, about 75 kilometres east of Split Lake, at about noon Monday, after a 53-year-old man from Tataskweyak Cree Nation was shot. He was dead when officers and paramedics arrived.
The victim and the suspect, who is also from Tataskweyak, knew each other.
The RCMP thanks the public and the media for their assistance.
Seine River School Division names new superintendent

A seasoned superintendent in Steinbach is moving school board offices to take the reins of the Seine River School Division.
In a news release Wednesday, SRSD announced the appointment of Colin Campbell, an assistant superintendent in the Hanover School Division, starting on Dec. 9.
Campbell has worked as a classroom and phys-ed teacher, learning support teacher, vice-principal, principal and assistant superintendent over the last two decades.
Campbell will replace interim superintendent Reg Klassen, who was tapped to lead the division after former leader Ryan Anderson resigned unexpectedly in the spring.
The division has been under scrutiny over the last year, owing to a surprise deficit and subsequent provincial review.
