Bear wanders into Royalwood
4:37 PM
A black bear was spotted in a wooded area along the Seine River in Royalwood on Wednesday.
A provincial government spokesman said Manitoba Conservation was aware of the sighting in the southeast Winnipeg neighbourhood.
“The Manitoba Conservation Officer Service has received a report of a bear in that area of the city, and conservation officers are on scene,” the spokesman said.
A black bear was found in the Wildwood neighbourhood on May 21. Conservation officers were summoned after the medium-sized bruin was spotted.
The bear climbed a tree, and conservation officers cordoned off the area. The bear moved low enough in the tree for officers to chemically immobilize it with darts at about 11 p.m.
The animal was relocated outside city limits.
