OHL roundup: Battalion sink Steelheads 6-0, lead series 3-2

NORTH BAY, Ont. – Kyle Jackson scored twice, including a goal at 1:28 of the first period to set the tone, as the North Bay Battalion defeated the visiting Mississauga Steelheads 6-0 to take a 3-2 lead in their first-round, best-of seven Ontario Hockey League playoff series on Friday night.

Kyle McDonald, Justin Ertel, Josh Bloom and Ty Nelson also scored for the Battalion, while Matvey Petrov chipped in with three assists.

The Battalion outshot the Steelheads 38-37 and led 1-0 after the first period and 4-0 heading into the third.

Dom DiVincentiis stopped 37 shots to post the shutout.

The Steelheads need to win Game 6 on Sunday in Mississauga to keep their playoff season going.

SARNIA, Ont. — The visiting Guelph Storm got goals from three different players to defeat the Sarnia Sting and avoid elimination in their first-round, best-of-seven playoff series.

Jake Murray, Max Namestnikov and Jake Karabela scored for the Storm, who now trail the series 3-2 with Game 6 on Sunday in Guelph, Ont.

Zach Filak scored for the Sting, who outshot the Storm 33-17. Storm goaltender Patrick Leaver kicked out 32 of 33 shots.

Saginaw leads best-of-seven series 3-2

SAGINAW, Mich. — Zacharie Giroux scored a goal and added an assist as the visiting Flint Firebirds defeated the Saginaw Spirit 5-2 to stay alive in their first-round, best-of-seven playoff series.

Dmitry Kuzmin, Tyler Deline, Ethan Hay and Amadeus Lombardi also scored for the Firebirds, who will try to even the series at 3-3 with a win in Game 6 on Saturday in Flint, Mich.

Mitchell Smith and Dean Loukus scored for the Spirit.
