OnePlus 12: Design, Specifications, Launch and All That We Know So Far

Share

OnePlus 12 is expected to debut soon as the flagship model from the Chinese smartphone maker. While the company has not announced the launch date of the smartphone yet, a previous report suggested that the OnePlus 12 may launch in China in December, followed by a global launch in January 2024. Over time, there have been several leaks and rumours regarding the specifications of the upcoming smartphone, none of which have been confirmed by the company yet. As we await the launch details and further confirmations by OnePlus regarding the same, here is a recap of all that we know so far regarding the smartphone.

Design

OnePlus 12 launch may be weeks away, but leaks around the device hint at possible changes in various departments. In terms of design, the OnePlus 12 may feature a slightly identical look to its predecessor, the OnePlus 11. However, leaks so far hint at minor changes to improve everyday usage. The circular camera housing looks to be carried forward from the 11, while the front has the selfie camera placement at the centre.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and 2K Screen

The latest leak from a Weibo post has suggested that the OnePlus 12 will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This correlates with the previous leak that hinted the OnePlus 12 to be powered by the yet-to-be-announced chipset.

In terms of display and screen, the OnePlus 12 could offer a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The post also mentioned that the smartphone will feature a 6.82-inch QHD+ curved LTPO display with a 1,440 x 3,168 pixels resolution. The screen is said to offer 2,160Hz PWM dimming and 120Hz refresh rate. It is said that the upcoming OnePlus 12 will feature BOE’s 2K screen.

Upgraded Cameras

For optics, the smartphone is expected to feature a Sony IMX966 OIS-enabled 50-megapixel sensor with a 23mm focal length and an f/1.7 aperture. Other sensors include a 48-megapixel ultra-wide telephoto camera (expected to be the Sony IMX581) with an f/2.2 aperture and another OmniVision OV64B 64-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The sensor could also allow hybrid zooming. Another report with leaked renders suggests that the smartphone gets a hole punch display design for the handset with a curved display.

Battery enhancements

The battery specifications of the OnePlus 12 suggest that the smartphone could pack a 5,400mAh battery with fast 100W wired charging support and 50W wireless charging support. This information is also corroborated by the latest leak that suggests that the smartphone will be equipped with a USB 3.2 port. It is said to run on Android 14 with OxygenOS 14 on top.
