Shawn Dobson leads in St. James

Shawn Dobson is leading in the race to become the next councillor of St. James, securing 33 per cent of the vote with 47 out of 48 polls reporting. Kelly Ryback is a close second, with 25 per cent.

Dobson previously represented the now-dissolved St. Charles ward, which was merged with the St. James and Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood wards in 2018. Dobson, a carpenter by trade, was elected to council in 2014, but was defeated by Gillingham four years later.

Shawn Dobson has numerous priorities including potholes and government cooperation, he said.

Dobson, has run in every civic election since 2002 and believes his previous experience at city hall will give him an edge over his challengers. His priorities include fiscal responsibility, crime prevention and infrastructure repair. He has endorsed Gillingham for mayor.

Dobson has said he has several priorities:

“Potholes would be my No. 1. There’s many, many issues, but I would very much encourage co-operation with all levels of government,” he said previously, adding the city will have to “watch its spending” until revenues from sources such as Winnipeg Transit recover from the effects of the pandemic.

The St. James and Charleswood – Tuxedo – Westwood wards were wide open and hotly contested in this years election, with incumbent councillors Scott Gillingham and Kevin Klein choosing to run for mayor.
