Groundbreaking Canadian TV comedy “Sort Of” has been renewed for a third season by CBC and HBO Max.

The series, created by Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, stars Baig — a queer, trans-feminine actor and playwright — as Sabi, a gender-fluid millennial from a South Asian family experiencing transition in all areas of their life in Toronto.

The second season premiered on CBC in November and on HBO Max in the U.S. earlier this month.

“It’s been such a creative and rewarding pleasure to sink deeply into the mess of the lives of these characters in Season 2,” Baig said in a news release. “And I look so forward to continuing and expanding the mess.”

The show also stars Amanda Cordner, Grace Lynn Kung, Ellora Patnaik, Supinder Wraich and Gray Powell.

“Sort Of” has won widespread critical acclaim and awards on both sides of the border, including a prestigious Peabody Award, a Rockie Award from the BANFF World Media Festival for Program of the Year, and Best Comedy Series at the Canadian Screen Awards.

Sally Catto, general manager of entertainment, factual and sports programming for the CBC, said the show “has made its way into the hearts of viewers and critics in Canada, the U.S. and around the world by embracing universal themes that we can all relate to, no matter who we love or how we self-identify.”
