With so many different streaming platforms and cable offerings to navigate through, choosing what to watch has never been harder. To make things easier, here are our best tune-in tips for the week ahead.

MONDAY

A Friend of the Family

This scripted drama starring Anna Paquin, Jake Lacy, and Colin Hanks is based on the upsetting story of the Broberg family whose daughter, Jan, was kidnapped multiple times over the period of a few years by a charismatic family friend. The story was first featured in the Netflix true crime documentary called “Abducted in Plain Sight.” Jan Broberg who now works as an actress (ironically even scoring a guest role on “Criminal Minds”), serves as a co-producer on this Peacock series along with her mother, Mary Ann Broberg.

TUESDAY

Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 3

The gripping whodunit series returns for a three-week limited series run. The first three episodes will feature stories about an 18-year-old volleyball player’s questionable suicide, an episode about strange lights appearing over Lake Michigan in 1994 and the hunt for a girlfriend accused of murdering her boyfriend.

WEDNESDAY

Love is Blind

It often shocks people when they hear that “Big Brother” recently completed its 24th season, that “The Amazing Race” is airing ts 34th season and that “Survivor” has been on the air for 22 years, and is currently airing its 43rd edition. In covering reality television for as long as I have, I can say that for me, the biggest surprise in the reality realm is the popularity of “Love Is Blind.” It seems like only yesterday we were talking about the antics of Shake and Deepti on the show where couples get engaged without ever meeting each other face-to-face. The show premieres its third season this week, and after reviewing a few episodes already, what I know for sure is that a true villain like Shake is sorely needed. You need someone you can love to hate and so far I am not seeing any.

FRIDAY

The Peripheral

Chloe Grace Moretz stars in "The Peripheral."

Top pick of the week is this new dystopian series from Prime Video. It stars Chloe Grace Moretz as a 3D printing shop employee who earns extra money by playing VR games for the wealthy. During one such occasion and after putting on a headset, her character, Flynne Fisher, finds herself in a futuristic London. That’s when she realizes what she is experiencing isn’t a game, and is actually real. Someone from 70 years into the future has found a way to open a portal to her life. The show is described as a “dazzling and hallucinatory glimpse into the fate of mankind,” but I like thinking of it as a new-age “Back to the Future.”

Prime Video

Raymond & Ray

Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke play a pair of estranged half-brothers who are finally reunited under the worst of circumstances when they have to bury their father. As the pair begrudgingly agree to work together to help their dad find his final resting place, they are surprised by his aggravating and exhausting final request. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and will be available on Apple TV Plus Friday.

Acapulco

Eugenio Derbez stars in this bilingual comedy series about a 20-something who lands his dream job as a cabana boy at the hottest resort in Acapulco in 1984 before becoming a powerful mogul in present day. The sophomore season of the series sees Maximo contend with new changes at the resort and the introduction of a new love interest. Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On

Buffy Sainte-Marie documentary airs this Friday on on Crave.

Fresh off of its world premiere at TIFF, this film explores the life of Buffy Sainte-Marie, one of Canada’s most-respected Indigenous leaders. The musician and activist’s career is explored through rare archival footage and interviews. At the Toronto festival, the film’s director, Madison Thomas, was recognized with a special mention in the Amplify Awards category for Best BIPOC Feature Film as well.

Terror Train

So excited for this one! It’s a contemporary reimagining of the classic horror movie of the same name starring Jamie Lee Curtis. As a group of college seniors board a party bus for a Halloween bash, the fun soon spirals into fear as attendees are killed off one by one. That means each survivor could be the potential killer. This new version was shot in Montreal. The best part? The original movie from 1980 will also be available to stream on Crave this Friday so you can conceivably watch both back-to-back to decide if the original really is always better than the remake.
