Valour FC opened its campaign with the same result it endured most of 2023 — a loss.
Winnipeg’s pro soccer club fell 4-1 to Vancouver FC at Willoughby Stadium in Langford, B.C., on Sunday, dropping to 3-2-1 in season openers since joining the Canadian Premier League.
Valour struck first off the foot of Jordan Swibel, one of the club’s new faces this season, in the 24th minute.
Vancouver, which held a 7-3 advantage in shots on target, dominated the rest of the match.
Moses Dyer evened things in the 45th minute, moments before the whistle blew for halftime. Paris Gee scored the go-ahead goal two minutes after the break and Gabriel Bitar (53rd minute) and David Norman Jr. (67the minute) added some insurance.
Valour will lick its wounds and continue a seven-game season-opening road trip against Pacific FC in Langford, B.C. on Friday.
