Watching the ‘Succession’ series finale? Mix up these special cocktails, inspired by Kendall, Roman and Shiv

Josh Leblanc, one of the co-owners of Bar Mordecai, has been a “Succession” fan from day one — he even learned to play the theme song on piano.

“The layers of the family relationships and the business, and the way those things rub together, are fascinating (and often horrifying) to watch,” said Leblanc. “As someone who has started businesses with family and friends, I can relate on a very, very micro level.”

In honour of the ‘Succession’ series finale, we asked Leblanc to mix up cocktails inspired by the Roy siblings: Kendall, Shiv and Roman (sorry, Connor).

The Kendall Roy cocktail

The Kendall Roy from Bar Mordecai.

“I made Kendall a riff on an Old Fashioned, which is traditionally made with whiskey. He wants to be a power player, so I thought he’d like a classic cocktail. That being said, he also perceives himself as edgy and cool, so I made it with Siete Misterios Mezcal. A Mezcal Old Fashioned would be a way for him to set himself apart from the old guard that surrounds his father. This version is made with clove-infused agave syrup, orange and coffee bitters to play off the Siete Misterios flavour profile.”

2 oz Siete Misterios Mezcal

1/4 oz clove agave syrup

1 dash coffee bitters

2 dashes Regan’s orange bitters

Garnished with an orange twist with cloves

The Shiv Roy cocktail

The Siobhan "Shiv" Roy from Bar Mordecai.

“Since Shiv is pregnant this season, I went with a non-alcoholic version of an Aperol Spritz. There are great non-alcoholic Italian bitters that can mimic Aperol. I used Bitter Oro Italiano, which you can find in most fine food markets. I also used Grüvi Dry Secco, which is made in Canada and does a great job of mimicking a nice Prosecco. Anyone who saw Shiv drinking this would assume that it’s a real cocktail, allowing her to keep her secrets — just the way she likes it.”

100 ml Bitter Oro Italiano

3 oz fresh squeezed orange juice

3 oz Grüvi Dry Secco

Splash of Perrier

Garnished with an orange slice

The Roman Roy cocktail

The Roman 'Romulus' Roy from Bar Mordecai.

“Roman may be co-CEO, but his toddler-like tantrums and lack of impulse control will remain no matter how impressive his job title is. I felt like he’d want a drink that would allow him to be a bit of a baller, so I went with a Champagne cocktail. To nod to the fact he’s also kind of a baby, I added house-made apple soda that we produce at Bar Mordecai: a grown-up version of apple juice for the kiddo.”

1.5 oz Dom Pérignon Brut Rosé

1.5 oz house apple soda (any low-sugar premium apple soda can be substituted)

1 oz Tio Pepe

3/4 oz St-Germain

1/2 oz Grand Marnier

1/4 oz lemon
